How Do I?: Search for Books

Looking for a book?

To find a book, use Quick Search on the TCC Library Homepage

Use only the most essential words related to your topic.

Refine Your Results

Quick Search results may include books, e-books, videos, and journal articles. In your list of results, check the menu on the left for ways to limit your results to just books.

Not enough results?  Try related terms or more general terms. Example: instead of death penalty, try capital punishment.

Too many results?  Be more specific. Example: Instead of nursing, try pediatric nursing.

Review Your Results

Take a look at your results. Pay close attention to the following things:

1. Quick Search results may include books, e-books, videos, and journal articles. Did you choose a book?

2. The Locations tab will tell you which library has the book. Some titles may be found at more than one campus library.

3. Available means that the book is at the library. Use the Call Number (example: DT61 .S57 2004) to find the book on the shelf.

Out of the Library means that the book is currently checked out.

4. Click the plus "+" sign next to the location to request the book or to find out when an Out of Library book is due back to the library. You can request to have a book sent to your campus library from another TCC library .

TIP: To request a book, you will need to log-in with your myTCC username and password.

TIP: You can also use the Request this item link next to the Location tab to request a book.
