News Literacy

The purpose of this Guide is to provide information on News Literacy.

Video re-posted under Fair Use.

Signs that information may be unreliable, false, or manipulated:

  • Clickbait headline: A headline that begs you to read more ("You won't BELIEVE...") without indicating the actual story.
  • EXCESSIVE use of CAPITAL LETTERS: Many fake news websites will try to grab your attention by using a lot of capital letters in the headline to make you click on the link.
  • Emotional appeals: A good news story should be objective-reporting the facts and the context, without telling you how it should make you feel.
