Integrating Library Resources into Blackboard: Films on Demand

Films on Demand

URL: http://library.vccs.edu/license-bin/linker.plx?xsrfilms

Leading source of high-quality video and multimedia for academic, vocational and life-skills content.

There are two ways to integrate videos from Films on Demand into Blackboard:

Linking to Video Clips from Blackboard:

Using full title or segment title URLS will provide a stable link to a specific video or segment.

  1. Click on the full title or segment title for the video you are interested in linking from your  Bb course
  2. When the video appears appears on screen, scroll down to the Title URL window (located under the video clip summary) and highlight, copy, and paste the link into your Bb course. Click on the image below to go to the video from the Films on Demand database. You DO NOT have to add the ezproxy URL prefix to any Films on Demand video. This information is already in the URL.Tips:
  • When linking to videos, be sure to use the link in the Title URL window and NOT the URL displayed in your web browser's address bar.
  • Make sure when copying the Title URL that you do not copy any additional spaces at the end of the URL. The extra space can cause a linking problem.
  • When linking full title or segment title URLs, select the Open in new window option. Opening the link in a new window will avoid known and unknown issues between Blackboard and various web browsers.

Embedding Video Clips in Blackboard:

Using the Embed Code will allow users to embed a full-featured Flash Video Player directly into any HTML page.

  1. Click on the full title or segment title for the video you are interested in linking from your  Bb course.
  2. When the video appears on screen, click on the Embed this Video option from the menu on the bottom of the video clip.

3. When the Embed Code appears, highlight, copy, and paste the code into your Bb course. Make sure to click on the HTML Source Mode option (<> icon) from the menu above the Bb Content window before adding the code into the window. If you don't see this icon, click on the Show More icon located on the right side of the menu.

4. When the HTML code view window appears, paste the embed code, then click on the Update button.

**You DO NOT have to add the ezproxy URL prefix to the embed code. The proxy server information is already in the Films on Demand embed code.

5. Click on the Submit button to save the embed code.  You should then see the embedded video in your Bb course.
