Tech Skills for College Students

Tech skills that are essential for college students to complete coursework

Tech Skills for College Students

College requires the use of multiple technologies that some students may not be familiar or comfortable with using. This guide will provide resources and tutorials for these necessary tech skills to improve student success. Tech skills covered in this guide include:

  • Navigating Online Coursework (even in person classes use Canvas!)
  • Creating or Editing Documents, Spreadsheets, and Presentations (Microsoft Office and Google Workspace)
  • Emailing (functions, etiquette, etc.)
  • File Management
  • Navigating Computer Systems (MacOS, Windows, ChromeOS)
  • Online Safety and Security

Canvas

Canvas is the Learning Management System used by Tidewater Community College. This is the student portal where you can access online coursework and materials and submit assignments. Some professors use Canvas for in-person classes and all online classes at TCC use Canvas for accessing your course materials.

TCC provides a webpage for Canvas support and tutorials.

Computers for Student Success

Need a computer? The Computers for Student Success program at TCC refurbishes donated computers and provides low or no-cost computers and computer repair services to TCC students. Visit their webpage linked below to find out more and to access the application. This program is operated by the TCC Computer Club and all inquiries should be made through the Computers for Student Success website.
