leukemia awareness orange ribbon

Every September, we recognize Leukemia Awareness Month—a time to raise awareness, support those affected, and promote education about blood cancers. At the library, we believe that access to reliable information and compassionate storytelling can empower individuals and communities alike.

📚 Learn the Facts Leukemia is a type of cancer that affects the blood and bone marrow. It can impact people of all ages, and early detection and research are key to improving outcomes.

We invite students, faculty, and researchers to explore:

  • Peer-reviewed journals in hematology and oncology
  • Books from our TCC Library catalog
  • Databases like PubMed and ScienceDirect for the latest research

Visit our HealthPortal Research Guide to learn more. Together, we can support awareness, advance knowledge, and foster hope.

As we welcome warmer days and more time outside, it’s the perfect moment to talk about skin cancer awareness. Did you know that skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the United States? The good news is—it’s also one of the most preventable.

This May, TCC Libraries are joining the conversation to help raise awareness and share tips for protecting your skin all year round. Whether you're gardening, heading to the beach, or just walking the dog, remember these simple steps:

  • 🧴 Wear broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher)

  • 👒 Use hats, sunglasses, and protective clothing

  • 🌤 Seek shade, especially between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

  • 👩‍⚕️ Schedule regular skin checks with your doctor

Looking to learn more? We’ve curated a selection of books and resources on skin health, cancer prevention, and sun safety—available now at your local campus and through our digital library.

Let’s shine a light on prevention and keep our community healthy!
