Evidence-Based Practice--What is it?

Evidence based practice (EBP) is the conscientious use of current best evidence in making decisions about patient care. (Sackett, Straus, Richardson, Rosenberg, & Haynes, 2000).

"Evidence-based practice is the integration of the best available research with clinical expertise in teh context of patient characteristics, culture and preferences."  Source:  American Psychological Association

"...the conscientious, explicit and judicious use of current best evidence in making decisions about the care of the individual patient.  It means integrating individual clinical expertise with the best available external clinical evidence from systematic research."  (David Sackett, 1996)
