Library Technology Troubleshooting

Wi-Fi Access

TCC-Affiliated Users (students, faculty, staff)

  • Must be currently enrolled or employed
  • Use SecureTCC
  • Students use current VCCS student login credentials (myTCC username and password.)
  • Faculty and staff use current TCC network login credentials.
  • They do not have to download the app; follow the separate QuickStart instructions if they want to do so.

TCC Community Patrons

  • Must have a valid TCC Community Library Card.
  • Use AccessTCC; Click on TCC Guest.
  • User ID is library card barcode number.
  • Password is last name in ALL CAPS
  • If Library Card is issued or updated today, will not have Wi-Fi access for up to 36 hours.

VBPL Patrons

  • Must have a valid VBPL Library Card.
  • VBPL Library Card must have transferred to the TCC library system.
  • Use AccessTCC; Click on TCC Guest.
  • User ID is library card barcode number.
  • Password is last name in ALL CAPS.
  • If Library Card is issued or updated today, will not have Wi-Fi access for up to 36 hours.

Need a guest account?

  • Under the TCC Guests login box is a link labeled ‘Need a guest account? Click Here.’ This link is not for library patrons. It is for official visitors to the college such as Workforce Development Workshop participants.
  • This link requires that a sponsor be entered. Except for a few limited exceptions at the Joint Use Library, library staff cannot sponsor guest access.

Troubleshooting

  • If the patron tried to log on to the wrong network and the settings are saved on the device, go to the Wi-Fi settings, forget or disconnect from the wrong network, and then try and log into the correct one.
  • If a Community or VBPL patron is unable to log in, check the Alma account for the following:
    • Check the last name.
      • Was it entered correctly, with initial capital letter only?
      • Does it have hyphens, commas, or other odd data anomalies?
      • Does it include a suffix such as SR. or JR., the password may be Smith Sr. or Smith Jr.
    • Check the account’s expiration date (found under Local Patron Information). If expired, update the record following Community patron update procedures. Wi-Fi should be available the next day.
  • If a Student cannot log on using the myTCC credentials:
    • Verify the password by asking them to sign on to a desktop computer and log in to myTCC.
    • Verify that they are currently enrolled by checking the expiration date of their Alma record. It should be within one week of a year from today.
